2013 Tee-2-Green Collegiate Turf Team Challenge Winner UConn Turf Club
MondayMarch
29th, I had the honor of speaking with the turf club students from
the University of Connecticut and presenting them with the Tee-2-Green Collegiate Turf Team
Challenge plaque. I was very proud to present the plaque to the students who
participated in our challenge and also to give them bragging rights for 2013. It was fantastic to see the students again and I look
forward to seeing them transform into the top turf managers of the future.
Congratulations
again to the UConn Turf Club as they are the 2013 Tee-2-Green Collegiate Turf
Team Challenge winner at this year's GCSAA conference in San Diego.
Teams from
all turf schools were invited to stop by the Tee-2-Green booth to participate
in our ever-popular Seeds of Fortune game. This year we decided to hold a team
event for turf schools/clubs where they could compete as a group to post the
highest score by answering turf and golf-related questions. We were very
excited to host the event, because we have always enjoyed meeting the students
each year as they stopped by our booth.
Again this
year it was great to see the students compete at such a high level. After two
days of competing, we ended up with a four-way tie for first place with 4500
points. It was decided that we would have a playoff amongst all four teams to
see who could answer the most questions in the final round. If the team missed
even one question, they were eliminated from the finals. The four-way tie
included last year's champions, Ohio State University, along with Suny Cobleskill,
and the team that gave the winners a run for their money.
UConn Turf
Club will have it's name etched on the turf team trophy for all to see in the
upcoming years, and the team members' names will grace our web site. I will
personally be visiting the schools of all top five finishing teams this year to
thank them for playing, and I will be presenting UConn with a special plaque
for their turf club and hosting a special event with their club this spring.
Way to go, Huskies!
We want to
thank all the teams who came by the booth this year and participated, and we
want to invite all turf clubs to come and compete next year and to put your
name on the trophy for the pride of your school.
We truly
enjoy meeting our next turf managers, and we feel this is a way to give back to
them.
